I’ve got to get me this application. Google Voice (Grand Central) is a very cool thing. Even my wife got into the hang of it by putting my GV number in her dialer. Now my home phone, mobile phone and office phone all ring at the same time when she calls. Of course if I’m trying to hide I’m screwed….but I would never do that!

Gizmodo – GV Mobile iPhone App Hands On – Gv mobile review

Google Voice, the very cool invite-only calling wrapper that used to be called Grand Central, can now be controlled directly from the iPhone with the GV Mobile app. It’s pretty fantastic.

This morning Trudy and I had the pleasure of watching Charlie, the son of our good friends from Bright, Indiana play Upward Basketball. Charlie scored and did a generally great job. Also you can click here to view the photos on my FaceBook site.

images While my experience with Windows 7 has been quite good I’ve run into a bit of a problem in the last couple of days. The first application I installed after getting the OS squared away was Microsoft Office 2007. That went very well. I then allowed Windows Update to install all available updates to Office. Sometime since then Outlook has started to run very flaky. It is so slow and usually just makes the system unusable requiring a reboot.

It is very unclear to me what the problem is. I needed a anti-virus program so installed the latest beta of ESET Smart Security 4 (NOD32) and this went without a hitch. In fact, so long as I do not open Outlook I have no issues.

To muddy things up a bit, I attempted to install a virtual cd emulator but I’ve restored now to a point before that with no visible impact on Outlook. The frustrating this about this is that when I first installed Vista Ultimate, it was Outlook 2007 that seemed to cause a problem and in fact to this day, when I start Outlook in my docking station, I never see the password prompt to login. I just have to type it blindly in the invisible prompt to get connected. I also had a problem with audio and the only solution was to format the drive and reinstall Vista. I surely hope that is not an issue here.

Hopefully I’ll find a fix to these issues soon because some of the new features are attractive enough to make me want to keep working in Windows 7.

Wow! What can I say. This Windows Live Writer that I just installed as a part of the Windows Live setup for Windows 7 is pretty nice. It provides a quick and easy way of creating posts for WordPress sites and many other types of blogs.

I just added some nice plug-ins like the Polaroid Picture plug-in which I used to post my grandson’s photo. Unfortunately, the plug-in does not seem to allow me to set text wrap options so the photo seems to occupy space across the page.

Well shut my mouth. As soon as I published the post the photo showed up just where I wanted it.

kelley I’ve been running Windows 7 for several days now. I’ve been running Vista Ultimate for some time and while I really never experienced the terrible problems many have reported, it is undeniably less snappy than XP was. So after hearing some glowing reports about the next version of Windows and when Microsoft made the beta public, I jumped on it.

Rather than find an old computer to install on or run the new OS in a virtual machine, I elected to partition my notebook’s hard drive. This was not as easy as it should have been. I have a 160GB drive on the machine and there was only 4GB free. I believe Windows 7 requires 16GB for a install.

I set about deleting and moving movie, music and photos from the drive to network storage on my Vista Media Center box and until I had cleared about 40GB of space. I then ran the built in defrag utility a couple of times and then went into Disk Management to use the built in disk partitioning ability.

Unfortunately I was unsuccessful in getting this to work and instead downloaded the free home version of EASEUS Partition Manager. After another failure it became obvious I needed to run a chkdsk on my drive. After rebooting and letting that process complete the EASEUS software did the trick. I shrunk my Vista boot partition by 25GB.

After that I popped the DVD I had created from the Windows 7 64 bit .ISO I had downloaded and installed away. 30-40 minutes later it was over and I was able to log in.

Many thing to talk about in the beta but most can be easily seen in demo videos and other screen caps at Engadget and Gizmodo. Go look and install. But, DO NOT, install over your existing OS unless you do not mind starting over. This public beta will expire on August 1, 2009. I do not know when the OS will be released to manufacturing but if history will be repeated, you will not be able to update your beta version to the final version so a full reinstall will be required. The beta has all options available and is the equivalent of the Vista Ultimate version.

The Cincinnati Reds announced a sweet deal for Reds fans for the Milwaukee series next week. Seats in the View Level, normally$22 are only $5 and the hot dogs are only $1. Of course the promotion is probably only to sooth lingering irritations at the Ken Griffey trade and horrible post all-star performance of the team.

At any rate, I thought, “hey what a nice time to take the family down to a game” and called to place an order for tickets. The long and short of it is the Reds would love to sell me the seats but they just don’t have any accessible seating available in the view level seats. So sorry charlie, it sux to be you!

I really appreciate the fact that I can go to the game at all and that the stadium has generally good facilities for a wheelchair user including family style restrooms, but it is frustrating that once again, my handicap is costing more money than for an able-bodied.

We are still going to the game and thankfully it occurs on a night when teachers can purchase tickets for half price. So we are sitting at the top of the lower level along the first base line. I’ll enjoy the view but will probably think often of the $5 seat we could not get!

The iPhone 3g and the Apple iTunes Application Store work together to provide some pretty fantastic abilities. For example, I’m typing this post from my iPhone using a brand new WordPress application from iTunes. Hopefully it works well but at the cost (free), I’m not sure there is any room for complaint.
